This is GitHub’s official MCP server. It links Claude Code straight to your account so it can reach repositories, issues, and pull requests.
With it, the assistant reads and acts on what lives in GitHub without you leaving the editor.
You can list issues, open and review pull requests, browse repository files, and follow the history of changes. All through a natural conversation with Claude Code.
When to use
- When you want to review or open pull requests without switching windows.
- To triage issues and see what’s pending in the project.
- While digging through a repository’s history during development.
How to use
After installing, set your GitHub personal access token and the MCP becomes available. Ask Claude Code something like “list the open issues in this repo” or “open a PR with these changes”.
